The Arlington Lions Club conducted vision screenings for 2,735 Arlington students this fall. The club provided approximately six to eight trained volunteers to screen all elementary and seventh grade students for vision. Of those screened, 168 students' families were notified that their student was in need of a formal vision referral for further testing.
“These screenings require a lot of coordination, planning, as well as extra equipment and personnel to accomplish it,” said Krissa Cramer, Arlington Public Schools District Nurse. “Without the support of the Arlington Lions Club, the district would have to purchase additional equipment to meet state vision screening requirements. We are so thankful for this partnership.”
During the Dec. 12 Arlington School Board meeting, the board recognized the Arlington Lions Club for their support of students.
“We have 110 members trained and they go wherever needed in Northwestern Washington," said Sharon Morrison, Lions Club Sight and Hearing Representative. “It's great we are able to help students and we enjoy it. Our motto is ‘We Serve.’”
The Lions Club has been providing vision screenings for Arlington students for the past five years.
