Coronavirus (COVID-19)

COVID-19 Guidance for Schools Current as of Nov. 1, 2022

As defined in RCW 70.05.070 and WAC 246-110-020, local health officers may require implementation of more stringent practices to control the spread of COVID-19 in school and child care settings. These requirements or orders initiated by local health officers may be more protective than statewide requirements but cannot be less protective.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) K-12 guidance supports K-12 schools to achieve the shared goal of maintaining safe, in-person learning while mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and community.

Individuals with COVID-19 Symptoms

Students, children, and staff with new onset of respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, or other symptoms of COVID-19, should not attend school, should stay home, and get tested for COVID-19. Follow the DOH COVID-19 Decision Tree.

Individuals who Test Positive for COVID-19

If a student tests positive for COVID-19, they should follow the DOH Guidance What to do if you test positive for COVID-19 and notify your building nurse of the illness. Your nurse will communicate with the attendance office as well as offer additional instructions for return.

You can find the School Nurse List by Building here.

If you are a staff member and are symptomatic and/or have tested positive for COVID-19, please contact our district nurse Krissa Cramer at 360-618-6286 or by email at [email protected].

If your APPLE or ECEAP preschool student is symptomatic or tests positive for COVID-19, please contact their program coordinator for additional instructions.

Individuals who are Exposed to COVID

If you have been exposed to COVID-19, you can help prevent the spread of the virus to others in your home, school, and community. We encourage individuals to follow the guidance What do do if you were potentially exposed to someone with COVID-19.

Measures Arlington Public Schools will Continue during the 2022/23 School Year to Mitigate Spread of COVID-19 in our district

  • Maintain Awareness of CDC Community Levels
  • Provide COVID-19 Access to Testing at School
  • Maintain an online dashboard of current known COVID-19 cases by building
  • Educate Students, Staff, and Families on best practice
  • Encourage good Handwashing and Respiratory Etiquette
  • Increase ventilation in our HVAC systems
  • Continue cleaning and disinfecting
  • Responding to outbreaks and reporting them to the Snohomish Health District (SHD)

COVID-19 Testing

All individuals are encouraged to test at home if they are symptomatic or are considered a close contact to a positive individual. Home tests are available through your school nurse at no cost in every building or mailed to your door at Say YES! COVID Test.

If you would like your student tested at school at no cost, a consent form for testing is required prior to any test administration. You may fill out this consent form on Skyward and follow the tip sheet below. Note that this consent form must only be filled out once and is good for the 2022/23 school year. COVID-19 Consent to Test at School hard copy if you do not have access to Skyward.
